Partners in Tourism: Groups

Group events and business travel are critical drivers of visitor spending in the Fox Cities. These 3 groups were key contributors in 2023

Meeting and convention events in the Fox Cities account for millions of dollars in economic impact each year. When groups choose to meet in the Fox Cities, the impact is felt community-wide, benefitting every industry from lodging to nightlife. Below are the stories of three organizations that found their fit in the Fox Cities and partnered with the CVB and our greater community to host high-impact events.

National Outstanding Young Farmers Award Congress

Feb. 16-19, 2023 (Hilton Appleton Paper Valley Hotel)

The Outstanding Young Farmers Program exists to bring about a greater interest in the farmer to foster better urban-rural relations through the understanding of the farmers’ endeavors. Each year, the NOYF Award Congress gathers to present an individual with the Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year award – a recognition of outstanding achievements in agriculture as well as community involvement.

This event brought about 300 attendees to the Fox Cities with an estimated economic impact of $73,543. They also had the opportunity to tour local museums and dairies while in market.

WIPPS Toward One Wisconsin Conference

April 25-26, 2023 (Hilton Appleton Paper Valley Hotel)

Toward One Wisconsin was created to help build communities of equity and opportunity. The 650 conference attendees were provided educational sessions with an emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion to empower and employ the full talent of all who live in Wisconsin.

The event generated an estimated economic impact of about $43,928 and would not have been possible without the collaboration of many Fox Cities community partners and stakeholders. The conference received assistance from 28 sponsors, 9 partner organizations, 120 presenters, 24 room moderators, the Conference Care Team, exhibitors, 62 committee members, and many volunteers.

Wisconsin Airport Management Association

September 20-23, 2023 (Hilton Appleton Paper Valley Hotel)

WAMA’s network of members works to promote aviation and airports in Wisconsin, seek and exchange information between aviation professionals, and develop cooperative relationships between Government, business, and aviation entities.

With 165 attendees and an estimated economic impact of $83,011, WAMA’s annual conference provided educational sessions along with Fox Cities exploration opportunities such an outing at Reid Golf Course, trap shooting at the Outagamie Conservation Club, and a tour of Gulfstream. Fun fact: Abe Weber, Director of Appleton International Airport, was recognized as WI Aviation Person of the Year!
