Stone Arch Brewpub Cheese Curds Named Best in the State
EatStreet named Appleton's Stone Arch Brewpub cheese curds the best in Wisconsin, beating out competition from more than three dozen restaurants statewide.
Say hello to Wisconsin's champion cheese curds! Stone Arch Brewpub (Appleton) cheese curds were recently named best in the state by EatStreet.
Chris Attaway with Epicurean Chronicles® was selected and coined the "Curd Nerd" by EatStreet to sample curds statewide to determine the best based on six factors: flavor, texture, smell, squeakiness, presentation, and dipping sauce. Over 11 days, she visited 11 cities, stopped at 37 restaurants, and logged 1200 miles in pursuit of finding the best cheese curds in Wisconsin.
Why did Stone Arch take the number one spot? In the EatStreet blog, Chris wrote, "First and foremost, I was impressed with the overall flavor and texture of their cheese curds. Their square-shaped curds are brought in fresh from Chippewa Falls and are made with their own Stone Arch Scottish Ale batter. The curds were perfectly executed with a golden brown color and a light yet crisp outer texture. Each curd was the perfect size. No knife and fork necessary to eat these square pieces of deliciousness. The cheese becomes one with the batter, but somehow, it’s still the star of the show with a subtle hint of Scottish Ale. Did it come with sauce? Yes, marinara and ranch, and both were delicious with it. Did the curds need it? Absolutely not. These cheese curds can stand on their own."
Two other restaurants with Fox Cities locations, Milwaukee Brewing Co. and Fox River Brewing Co., also made the top 10 list.
